Lindsey Schmitz, Head Dog Trainer at Doggie Joggie, is a certified dog trainer serving the broader San Diego metropolitan area. Lindsey spent her childhood in Texas and entered world of dogs at the age of 10 when she adopting a young border collie named Lady. After rehabilitating the shy and fearful dog, she decided to dedicate her future to caring for these amazing animals who have been loyal companions to humans for the past 10,000+ years. Her passion for dogs led her to work initially as a kennel technician for a Texas-based pet boarding facility called Club Canine. As a kennel technician, Lindsey provided professional care for a wide variety of dog breeds, sizes, and temperaments with diverse needs. Lindsey moved to San Diego in 2011 while she was in the Navy. During her 4 years of military service, Lindsey continued her involvement in the dog community by volunteering with multiple dog rescues, including Its The Pits, Labradors and Friends, and Pit Bull Rescue San Diego. Throughout that time she assisted with adoption events, provided transportation and exercise for adoptable dogs, and welcomed multiple foster dogs into her home.
After finishing with the Navy, Lindsey decided to take her passion for dogs to the next level and moved to Maysville, Georgia to pursue a formal education in dog training at Custom Canine Unlimited. She completed a rigorous 3-month course of study which balanced classroom lectures with hands-on field work. Under the instruction of world renowned trainers, Lindsey trained dogs in obedience, tracking, scent detection, personal protection, and behavior modification. While there, Lindsey also obtained her Kennel Master certification, which means she has the knowledge and skills necessary for the operation of a canine facility, including canine first aid, nutrition, administering medication, facility maintenance.
Upon returning to San Diego, Lindsey partnered with Doggie Joggie to design and implement a program of services for effective and lasting dog training, and has happily been continuing this work ever since. Lindsey has trained pet dogs, service dogs, single purpose and dual purpose police canines, and military working dogs, and loves having the daily opportunity to deepen her understanding of of canine behavior, perfect her skill as a dog trainer, and improve the lives of dogs and dog owners.
